💚 Active Athletes 💚 Well done to this athletic bunch who took part in the Junior Parkrun in Gorleston on Sunday representing Westwood brilliantly with their running ability and their sportsmanship, cheering each other on! 💜 Junior Parkrun is a free event which is held weekly on the lower promenade of Gorleston seafront every Sunday - it would be great to see more of our children there!

🌟 Reception 🌟 This week in Reception, the children have settled back brilliantly after their Easter break. There has been a lot of excitement in the class as we discovered a mysterious egg in our classroom! We have created posters and drawn pictures to share what we think might be inside the egg. In Maths, we have been exploring volume and have enjoyed using varying sized containers and water to see which jugs and cylinders can hold the most and the least water. We have started our gymnastics unit in PE and have looked at eggs and nests as part of our Woodland sessions. Well done for a super first week back, enjoy a restful weekend. 🌟 Nursery 🌟 This week in Nursery, we have started our new topic about transport called 'Getting Around'. We have been looking at different types of boats and reading the story 'The Journey'. The children have looked at capacity - how much a container can hold and floating and sinking. We have also looked at counting in maths and scooping and bouncing in gross motor play. Nursery enjoyed taking part in the non uniform day on Friday for Autism awareness. We look forward to seeing you on Monday! 💜 Miss Clark, Ms Gillings & Mrs Obree

💙 Autism Awareness Day 💙 Yesterday we dressed in blue to mark Autism Awareness Day. The official date for this fell during the Easter holidays but we felt it was such an important topic to raise awareness about that we held our own event yesterday.

🌟 Year 4 🌟 Well done Year 4 for a fantastic first week back! This week in Maths we have been rounding and ordering decimals! In Science we have started our topic of Living things and how these are classified! In Art we looked at Picasso and the features of the Cubist Movement he uses in his art! In Computing we started our photo editing topic, discussing why this may be unethical and then we learnt how to crop and rotate pictures and why people might do this and in PE we have looked out negotiating and compromising in times of conflict. In Maths we have been rounding decimals and focussing on our times tables practice and our TTRS soundchecks! Well done Year 4! Have a great weekend Miss Harvey and Mrs Longthorne

🌟 Year 5 🌟 Welcome back! What an amazing start to the Summer Term! In Literacy, we have finalised and published our diary entries, written from different character perspectives from the book, The Island. In Maths, we have been finding equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages and ordering and comparisons decimals. In PSHE, we discussed how to be a good friend, identifying the key features we look for in a friendship. In RWV, we were introduced to Buddhism, we ordered the key events and retold the story of Buddha. In PE, we developed our confidence in serving during Badminton. In Computing, we analysed conditions in gaming. As a class, we had our second dance rehearsal for the ALT Dance Show. After only two rehearsals, Year 5 have learned the entire dance – we have been blown away by their enthusiasm and commitment. Please remember PE kits next week. Woodlands and dance rehearsals are scheduled for Mondays and PE on a Wednesday. Thank you for wearing blue today for Autism Awareness! Have a lovely weekend – See you Monday! 🌟 Year 6 🌟 In Literacy, pupils got creative by writing diary entries from different characters’ perspectives in The Island, thinking carefully about feelings and viewpoints. In Maths, we sharpened our skills with coordinates in all four quadrants and enjoyed tackling translations and reflections. PE lessons were lively as we practised dribbling in Basketball and worked on control and coordination. In Art, pupils explored the batik work of Jo Whiteland and used artistic language to share thoughtful comments about her designs. In Science, we put our investigation skills to good use by planning ways to prove that light travels in straight lines. In History, we launched our new topic on the Ancient Maya by discovering where they lived and ordering key events chronologically. Enjoy your weekend! Miss Bircham and Mrs Goodyear

🌟 Year 3 🌟 A fantastic week back Year 3! In Literacy, we have published our explanation texts, in Reading, we have started reading The Iron Man and in Maths, we have been adding and subtracting money. In Science, we looked at push and pull forces, in Woodlands we learnt about rope safety and how to tie a reef and hitch knot. In PE, we learnt to pass in Handball, in PSHE we learnt about listening and respect and in RWV we have started learning about Sikhism. We also enjoyed another fabulous ukulele session. We’re delighted to share that our first week of free school breakfast has been a great success! Starting the day with a healthy breakfast is so important for children, it helps them concentrate, boosts their energy levels, and sets them up for a positive day of learning and fun. Our breakfast club offers a range of tasty options including fresh fruit, yoghurt, toast, and a variety of cereals, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. 🌟 Year 1 🌟 This week in Year 1, the children have had a fantastic time! They really enjoyed their trip to Time of Tide and have been fully engaged in our History unit on the 1950s–60s. In Literacy, the children completed their “new friend” work inspired by Beegu, showing great creativity and imagination. In Science, we explored the differences between carnivores and omnivores, and the children did a brilliant job understanding these concepts. It’s been a wonderful term, and we are so proud of all their hard work. Wishing you all a lovely and restful Easter break! Miss Shuffle and Miss Dennant 💜

🌟Year 3 🌟 A fantastic week Year 3 and an exciting end to our Spring term! In Literacy we have been reading our new book The Street Beneath My Feet so we can write our own explanation texts, in Reading we have finished How To Change The World and in Maths we have finished learning about weight and mass. In Science we looked at how porous soil is, in Computing we put sound and text into our stop motion movies, in PSHE we learnt about the menstrual cycle, in RWV we learnt about Eid and in PE we put our Tag Ruby skills to the test by playing mini games. We also enjoyed another fabulous ukulele session and even got to go to St Marks Church for our Easter Service. We also had a mini Easter Egg hunt. We have also set up our TTRS tournament for over the Easter Holidays so don’t forget to play and help your team win! Enjoy your holidays! Mr Wright and Miss Bow

🌟Year 5 🌟 Wow! What a fantastic end to the Spring Term! In Literacy, we have written a diary entry in the perspective of the Fisherman from the book, The Island. In Maths, we have been finding equivalent fractions and decimals, using key mathematical vocabulary and our place value knowledge. In Reading, we have continued to make informed inferences and apply retrieval skimming and scanning techniques to our book, The Garden of Lost Secrets. In History, we analysed a variety of sources to make informed historical conclusions about Alfred the Great. In DT, we create our embroidered self portraits, inspired by the work of several designers and our own personalities! A huge thank you the children for their continued positive attitudes, love of learning and dedication to everything that they do! We are so proud of each and every one of you! 🌟 Reception 🌟 This week in Reception we have enjoyed walking to our local Co-Op to buy ingredients for our Teddy Bear's picnic. We followed the recipes we had written to prepare food for ourselves and our families, thank you for joining us! At the end of the week, we have been looking at the Easter story and how it can be celebrated, we compared this with how other celebrations are celebrated. Have a lovely Easter Half Term Break!

🌟Year 6🌟 In Literacy, the children worked on extending their sentence structures and using more advanced punctuation, using The Island as a stimulus. In Maths, we explored circles, investigated nets of 3D shapes and practised plotting coordinates in the first quadrant. Our History lessons took us back to the Vikings as we examined artefacts and images to understand their beliefs. In Fitness, the children developed their coordination through a range of skipping activities, and in Tag Rugby they applied their skills in a series of mini games. In DT, the class made and evaluated their own steady hand games, testing circuits and making improvements. We also visited the Church for our Easter Service, where the children represented the school beautifully. Have a wonderful Easter Break!

🌟 Year 4 🌟 What a fun last week of the Spring term! This week Year 4 went to Fisher Theatre to watch 'How to Train your Dragon', we all loved the movie and made comparisons to how it was different to the book we have been reading. We then went to the Church for our Easter Visit and enjoyed singing and listening to the importance of the Easter story. In DT this week we worked fantastically to design our LED, and showed strong teamwork to help each other light their bulbs in their electrical circuit! Well done Year 4 and have a lovely Easter! 🌟 Year 6 🌟 This week has been a wonderfully busy one in class. In Literacy, the children began their new unit on diary writing inspired by The Island, experimenting with rich figurative language to bring scenes and emotions to life. In Maths, they built confidence working with angles in quadrilaterals and polygons, applying their reasoning skills to new challenges. DT was hands‑on as pupils explored how a steady hand game works, creating complete circuits using conductive materials. In History, the class enjoyed examining why the Vikings are viewed as they are, thinking critically about evidence and perspective. We boosted agility in Fitness, strengthened defensive teamwork in Tag Rugby and in Religion had thoughtful discussions about how Humanists find happiness in a finite life.

🌟 Reception 🌟 This week in Reception, the class have been thinking about what foods to make for our Teddy Bear Picnic next week. They had a go at following instructions to create foods and write their own recipes. In Maths, we have been combining 2D shapes to create new shapes, using shapes to create pictures. In P.E we practised how jump, bending our knees and landing on two feet. The children then applied this skill when taking part in some races. During our Woodland session this week we looked at snails, and had ago at artwork inspired by Henri Matisse's 'Snail'. Next week we are looking forward to our Teddy Bear's picnic on Wednesday, we can't wait to see you there.

🌟 Nursery 🌟 This week Nursery have been reading the book 'Lulu loves flowers'. We have been looking at and describing different types of flowers, talking about what we might find in a garden and how plants grow. We have been painting flowers and exploring famous flower pieces of art. In maths we have been exploring weighing and finding out what is heavier or lighter .Our sound in phonics this week has been /d/. On Friday we joined in with the TTRS with Rock Star dress up day and sang lots of counting songs. We hope you have a wonderful weekend.

🌟 Year 3🌟 A fantastic week Year 3! In Literacy we have written our endings for our stories, in Reading we have been reading 'How To Change The World' and in Maths we have moved onto weight and mass. In Science we looked at the formation of fossils, in DT we designed our crumbles, in Computing we created our own stop motion films, in PSHE we looked at personal and private areas, in History we learnt about the differences between palaeolithic and neolithic settlers and in Religion & World Views we looked at what happens in a mosque.
