💜 Year 5 💜 What a fantastic week of learning and achievement in Year 5! In Literacy, we immersed ourselves in the story of Macbeth, writing detailed chronological recounts of Scene 1 and using figurative language to vividly describe the setting and characters. In Maths, we developed our understanding of angles by learning how to classify them accurately. In Reading, we finished our class novel, The Garden of Lost Secrets. We made informed inferences, discussed the ending thoughtfully, and completed our own book reviews. In RWV, we explored how Buddhism is practised around the world and learned about the diversity of Buddhist traditions and beliefs. In Geography, we carried out extensive research into the Great Barrier Reef, discovering the incredible ecosystems it supports and why they are so important. In PE, we developed our bowling skills and applied them in a fun class game of rounders. During Athletics, we focused on improving our relay techniques and teamwork. Today, we enjoyed an amazing Sports Day! The children showed fantastic enthusiasm, determination and sportsmanship throughout the event. A huge well done to everyone who took part, and a big thank you to all the families and friends who came along to support us. 💜 Year 6 💜 In Literacy, we began writing a recount of Act One of Macbeth, working on retelling key events clearly and in the correct order. In Maths, we continued our algebra unit, looking at how to write expressions and substitute values to find answers. In Geography, we explored the main trade routes involved in the import and export of cacao, using maps to track how it travels around the world. In Science, we planned our own investigations, focusing on identifying different variables and how to control them to make our tests fair. In PE, we worked on improving our running technique, practising both sprinting and pacing, while in cricket we developed our throwing, catching and basic fielding skills. Alongside this, we’ve been continuing to rehearse The Wizard of Oz - we can't wait for you to see it! To end the week, we had Sports Day and the children did us proud, taking part enthusiastically in a wide range of events and showing fantastic support for the Key Stage 1 pupils - well done, Year 6! 💜 Year 3 💜 A fantastic week Year 3! In Literacy we have published all of our poems, in Maths we looked at angles, lines and turns, and in Reading we have been reading Anisha Accidental Detective. In PE we have developed our forehand skills further, as well as developing our relay skills in athletics. In PSHE we looked at things that keep us healthy and make us unwell, in DT we added embellishments to a template, in Science we performed an experiment to test if a material is magnetic or not and in RWV we looked at why sharing is important in Sikhism. We also enjoyed another fabulous ukulele session. We had a fantastic time showcasing our sports skills on sports day too! We are all incredibly proud of the sportsmanship and resilience shown by everyone. It was a fantastic morning! Enjoy the weekend! Mr Wright and Miss Bow

💜 Year 1 💜 What a fantastic week in Year 1! 🌟 In Maths, the children have been learning numbers from 50–100 and have shown great confidence. In Literacy, they enjoyed changing the story The Most Magnificent Thing and created their own wonderful creations, full of imagination. In Geography, the children learned about Mount Everest and why it is such an important landmark. In DT, the children practised the running stitch and back stitch, developing their sewing skills. 💜 Reception 💜 This week in Reception we have immersed in Minibeasts! We went to our woodland and went on a minibeast hunt. We looked under logs, on leaves and on the ground. We found woodlice, centipedes, ladybirds, beetles and slugs. We have shared the Hungry Caterpillar Story and written sentences inspired by the text. In Maths, we have been exploring number bonds and have been working with a friend to extend our learning. In the garden, we have enjoyed building obstacle courses. The children showed great respect when listening to our visitors from Everyone Active who taught them about water safety. They have shown great resilience, team work and sportsmanship while practicing and taking part in their first sports day. We are so proud of you. Well done Reception. 💜 Nursery 💜 This week in Nursery we have been reading the story “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” as part of our new topic “New Beginnings”. The children have really enjoyed exploring the story through a range of creative activities, including making paper chain caterpillars and creating special cards for Father’s Day. We have also been busy exploring our new garden layout, showing curiosity and excitement as we discovered the changes to our outdoor area and doing lots of construction inside and outside. In Maths, we have been learning about positional language, using everyday experiences to support our understanding. During our pen party, we listened carefully to music and created wave patterns inspired by the sounds we heard. We also created beautiful symmetrical butterfly artwork, linking to the story. Next week we will continue to read “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and are really looking forward to our Sports Share. Miss Clark, Ms Gillings, Mrs Obree & Miss Adams

🌟 Heading to the Light Festival this weekend? 🌟 If so, pop into Kensington Gardens and look out for the fantastic hand decorated planets created by our after school club students. The children worked together as a team to design and create the planets, which are now on display for the weekend of the festival. 🪐 Mrs Eccleston has already found them all ..can you? 💜

💜 Year 2 💜 This week in Literacy, we have been writing the five parts of our story and using expanded noun phrases to make our writing more detailed and interesting. In Maths, we have started learning how to tell the time past the hour. Please continue to practise this skill with your child at home. In Science, we explored microhabitats and learned how animals have adapted to live in them. In Geography, we investigated the Great Barrier Reef and located it on our maps. 💜 Nursery 💜 This week in Nursery we have continued to read the story “Super Duper Me!” and have been celebrating just how special and unique we all are. Our phonics focus has been the sound ‘b’, and we have been practising recognising and using it in our learning. In Maths we have been counting and ordering numbers to 5, using lots of hands-on resources to help us. We have also explored movement in the hall and enjoyed imaginative play in our small world area. The children created their own medals to show how super they are, which they were very proud of! We also had lots of fun using the bouncy hoppers in the outdoor area, developing our balance and coordination. On Friday, we headed to the woods where we recreated “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”. The children showed great enthusiasm and creativity as they retold the story outdoors. Next week we will be starting our new topic “New Beginnings” and reading “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. 💜 Reception 💜 A wonderful week in Reception. We have enjoyed writing our own stories inspired by our Pets and the That's not my book series. In Maths, we have learnt how to double numbers using dominoes and counters. In the garden we have enjoyed creating obstacle courses and playing games of hide and seek as a class. We have enjoyed our new Vet's role play area, looking after the animals, giving them medicine and taking care of them. We have enjoyed developing our Jabadao Developmental Movement skills with the lycras and walked the Solidarity Walk with our friends in school. We explored the instruments and scarves in music. Next week we immerse in Minibeasts and Woodland animals. We will be bug hunting and sharing the Hungry Caterpillar story. In Maths we are going to revisit number bonds within 10. 💜 Year 1 💜 Our Year 1 children have had a wonderful time learning! In Literacy, they explored The Most Magnificent Thing and creatively changed the invention. In Maths, they learned about capacity and volume, building confidence in measuring and comparing. In Geography, they studied Australia and the Great Barrier Reef, and in DT they practised joining materials by sewing, gluing and pinning. 💜 Year 3 💜 A fantastic week Year 3! In Literacy we have begun writing poems using alliteration and rhyme, in Maths we have started our unit on angles and measuring we have been reading Anisha Accidental Detective. In PE we have looked at racket and ball skills by using forehand serves. In PSHE we looked at the differences between risks and dangers, in DT we practiced blanket stitch and running stitch, in Science we designed an experiment to test if a material is magnetic or not and in R&WV we looked at the different things that Sikhs do to feel closer to God. 💜 Year 4 💜 In Year 4 this week, we have been rehearsing our poems using expression, gestures and voice to engage an audience. In Maths, we have been drawing line graphs, describing position and plotting coordinates. In PSHE, we have been looking at different scenarios which are dares and have suggested strategies to manage these. In DT, we have been looking at the different fruit that is in season in the UK and how these are grown, transported and processed. 💜 Year 5 💜 What a fantastic week in Year 5! In Literacy, we’ve been diving into Shakespeare, making inferences about his plays and immersing ourselves in the opening scene of Macbeth. The children enjoyed using figurative language to describe both the setting and the characters. In Maths, we’ve been sharpening our skills by translating shapes and coordinates, and in Reading, we’ve been analysing how characters change and develop throughout a text. In Music, we immersed ourselves in learning and enjoying new songs linked to space, showing great enthusiasm and creativity. We also had a brilliant time taking part in workshops at Pakefield, where the children enjoyed trampolining, flag football, and media activities. 💜 Year 6 💜 In Literacy, we revisited dialogue punctuation and explored how writers can move the action forward through what characters say, before starting our new unit on Macbeth, where we made thoughtful predictions from the front cover and blurb. In Maths, we began our algebra unit by looking at function machines and even created our own, thinking carefully about inputs and outputs. In Reading, we developed our inference skills by using characters’ actions to understand them more deeply. In Religion, we learned about the importance of the Qur’an to Muslims and the guidance it offers. In Geography, we explored where chocolate is produced and used our map skills to locate the main producing countries. 💜 Active Citizens 💜 On Friday, we recognised 'A Day of Welcome' - held annually, its aim is to build a culture of welcome and understanding for people seeking sanctuary. Every child designed and decorated a pair of shoes which created a pathway from our front gate to our front door to represent Westwood being a safe place where ALL are welcome. We all gathered on the field to take a 'Walk of Solidarity' in silence around the track which was a powerful and poignant way to mark the occasion.

🌟 Attendance 🌟 What an incredible week for attendance - it was prizes galore!! Year 1 & Year 3 both achieved 100% - earning 2 rolls of the dice each on the Attendance-opoly board! 💜 Year 3 💜 A fantastic week in Year 3! In Literacy we have begun looking at different poems in order for us to write our own silly poems, in Maths we have finished our unit on time and in Reading we have started reading Anisha Accidental Detective. In PE we have looked at racket and ball skills in our indoor session and in our outdoor session we developed our sprinting skills. In PSHE we looked at safe and unsafe situations, in DT we created mood boards of different cushions which will enable us to design and make our own cushion covers, in Science we looked at non-contact forces and in R&WV we looked at the values of Sikhism and how they influence actions. 💜 Year 2 💜 Year 2 have had a brilliant first week back. In Literacy, the children began exploring their new text Billy and the Beast, diving into the characters and story. In Maths, they finished their work on fractions by counting and ordering them with growing confidence. Geography took them around the world as they identified continents and oceans and labelled their own maps. In DT, they investigated how wheels and axles work, while in RWV they enjoyed the Hindu story The Rabbit and the Lion. 💜 Year 1 💜 What a fantastic week back in Year 1 🌟 This week in Year 1 we learned about the continents and some Wonders of the World. In Literacy we started our new book The Most Magnificent Thing and the children created brilliant inventions for the pet dog. In Science we looked at wild flowers, and in Maths we explored measurement. The children also had great fun in DT making different puppets and performing a shadow puppet show.
