💜 Year 6 💜 In Literacy, we revisited dialogue punctuation and explored how writers can move the action forward through what characters say, before starting our new unit on Macbeth, where we made thoughtful predictions from the front cover and blurb. In Maths, we began our algebra unit by looking at function machines and even created our own, thinking carefully about inputs and outputs. In Reading, we developed our inference skills by using characters’ actions to understand them more deeply. In Religion, we learned about the importance of the Qur’an to Muslims and the guidance it offers. In Geography, we explored where chocolate is produced and used our map skills to locate the main producing countries. Alongside this, we’ve been continuing to rehearse The Wizard of Oz - it’s great to see everyone growing in confidence! Have a super weekend! Miss Bircham & Mrs Goodyear

💜 Year 5 💜 What a fantastic week in Year 5! In Literacy, we’ve been diving into Shakespeare, making inferences about his plays and immersing ourselves in the opening scene of Macbeth. The children enjoyed using figurative language to describe both the setting and the characters. In Maths, we’ve been sharpening our skills by translating shapes and coordinates, and in Reading, we’ve been analysing how characters change and develop throughout a text. In Music, we immersed ourselves in learning and enjoying new songs linked to space, showing great enthusiasm and creativity. We also had a brilliant time taking part in workshops at Pakefield, where the children enjoyed trampolining, flag football, and media activities. 💜 Year 4 💜 In Year 4 this week, we have been rehearsing our poems using expression, gestures and voice to engage an audience. In Maths, we have been drawing line graphs, describing position and plotting coordinates. In PSHE, we have been looking at different scenarios which are dares and have suggested strategies to manage these. In DT, we have been looking at the different fruit that is in season in the UK and how these are grown, transported and processed. 💜 Year 3 💜 A fantastic week Year 3! In Literacy we have begun writing poems using alliteration and rhyme, in Maths we have started our unit on angles and measuring we have been reading Anisha Accidental Detective. In PE we have looked at racket and ball skills by using forehand serves. In PSHE we looked at the differences between risks and dangers, in DT we practiced blanket stitch and running stitch, in Science we designed an experiment to test if a material is magnetic or not and in R&WV we looked at the different things that Sikhs do to feel closer to God. We also enjoyed another fabulous ukulele session. We also enjoyed our attendance price of class party and extra break time! Well done Year 3 on your amazing attendance! Enjoy the weekend! 💜 Year 2 💜 This week in Literacy, we have been writing the five parts of our story and using expanded noun phrases to make our writing more detailed and interesting. In Maths, we have started learning how to tell the time past the hour. Please continue to practise this skill with your child at home. In Science, we explored microhabitats and learned how animals have adapted to live in them. In Geography, we investigated the Great Barrier Reef and located it on our maps. 💜 Year 1 💜 Our Year 1 children have had a wonderful time learning! In Literacy, they explored The Most Magnificent Thing and creatively changed the invention. In Maths, they learned about capacity and volume, building confidence in measuring and comparing. In Geography, they studied Australia and the Great Barrier Reef, and in DT they practised joining materials by sewing, gluing and pinning. 💜 Reception 💜 A wonderful week in Reception. We have enjoyed writing our own stories inspired by our Pets and the That's not my book series. In Maths, we have learnt how to double numbers using dominoes and counters. In the garden we have enjoyed creating obstacle courses and playing games of hide and seek as a class. We have enjoyed our new Vet's role play area, looking after the animals, giving them medicine and taking care of them. We have enjoyed developing our Jabadao Developmental Movement skills with the lycras and walked the Solidarity Walk with our friends in school. We explored the instruments and scarves in music. Next week we immerse in Minibeasts and Woodland animals. We will be bug hunting and sharing the Hungry Caterpillar story. In Maths we are going to revisit number bonds within 10. 💜 Nursery 💜 This week in Nursery we have continued to read the story “Super Duper Me!” and have been celebrating just how special and unique we all are. Our phonics focus has been the sound ‘b’, and we have been practising recognising and using it in our learning. In Maths we have been counting and ordering numbers to 5, using lots of hands-on resources to help us. We have also explored movement in the hall and enjoyed imaginative play in our small world area. The children created their own medals to show how super they are, which they were very proud of! We also had lots of fun using the bouncy hoppers in the outdoor area, developing our balance and coordination. On Friday, we headed to the woods where we recreated “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”. The children showed great enthusiasm and creativity as they retold the story outdoors. Next week we will be starting our new topic “New Beginnings” and reading “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. 💜 Year 4 💜 In Literacy, we have started writing our own poetry. In Maths, we have been multiplying and dividing by 9. In Science, we have thought about scientific questions and how they can be answered in different ways. In DT, we have been describing the taste and texture of fruit bread using sensory vocabulary. 🌟 Attendance 🌟 What an incredible week for attendance - it was prizes galore!! Year 1 & Year 3 both achieved 100% - earning 2 rolls of the dice each on the Attendance-opoly board! Nursery, Year 2 & Year 4 also got to roll the dice for achieving 98% (after rounding) or more!!! Can we have the same again next week? 💜

💜 Year 3 💜 A fantastic week in Year 3! In Literacy we have begun looking at different poems in order for us to write our own silly poems, in Maths we have finished our unit on time and in Reading we have started reading Anisha Accidental Detective. In PE we have looked at racket and ball skills in our indoor session and in our outdoor session we developed our sprinting skills. In PSHE we looked at safe and unsafe situations, in DT we created mood boards of different cushions which will enable us to design and make our own cushion covers, in Science we looked at non-contact forces and in R&WV we looked at the values of Sikhism and how they influence actions. We also enjoyed another fabulous ukulele session. We also enjoyed our attendance prize of a short film and popcorn! Well done Year 3 on your amazing attendance! Enjoy the weekend! 💜 Year 2 💜 Year 2 have had a brilliant first week back. In Literacy, the children began exploring their new text Billy and the Beast, diving into the characters and story. In Maths, they finished their work on fractions by counting and ordering them with growing confidence. Geography took them around the world as they identified continents and oceans and labelled their own maps. In DT, they investigated how wheels and axles work, while in RWV they enjoyed the Hindu story The Rabbit and the Lion. To finish the week, they sorted different habitats in science, thinking about where animals live and why. A busy and exciting start to the term. Have a fab weekend! Miss Bailey & Mrs Eccleston

💜 Year 1 💜 What a fantastic week back in Year 1 🌟 This week in Year 1 we learned about the continents and some Wonders of the World. In Literacy we started our new book The Most Magnificent Thing and the children created brilliant inventions for the pet dog. In Science we looked at wild flowers, and in Maths we explored measurement. The children also had great fun in DT making different puppets and performing a shadow puppet show. 💜 Reception 💜 Welcome to Summer term 2! The children have settled brilliantly back after their half term holiday. We have started learning about Pets and the children have enjoyed sharing photos of their pets. We have thought about characteristics of pets and have drawn large scale pictures of pets in groups. In Maths we have revisited ordering, sequencing and the composition of numbers to 10. We have started Jabadao sessions in the hall where we explore large scale body movements and have enjoyed all weathers in our garden. Next week we will be continuing to learn about pets using the 'That's not my' book series. Children are welcome to bring their 'That's not my' books in to share with the class. 💜 Nursery 💜 This week in Nursery we have started our new topic "Who I am Now!" and reading the story 'Super Duper You'. We have taken part in a pen party where we listened to music and drew what the music made us feel. In Maths, we have looked at repeating patterns and we also used textured balls with dough. On Friday, we all put on our purple suits and went to the woodlands where we explored the area and were brave and resilient! Next week we will continue with the story "Super Duper You" and creating medals to celebrate our achievements. In Maths, we will be subitising and looking at number. Have a lovely weekend! 🎪 Circus Comes to Westwood! 🎪 Dear Parents and Carers, We are delighted to let you know that Circus Ferrel will be visiting Westwood Primary School from Monday 29th June to Sunday 5th July 2026 – an exciting experience for our children and the wider school community! The circus will be setting up a big top on the school field, and during the week pupils will enjoy: A circus assembly Hands‑on workshops during the school day An opportunity to take part in the weekend performances Weekend Performances for Families Families are warmly invited to attend performances on: Saturday 4th July and Sunday 5th July at 2:00pm To make the day even more special, we will also be running fun stalls and activities before the shows, creating a real community atmosphere. These will take place between 1:00–2:00pm. Refreshments will also be available to purchase. 🎟️ Tickets Tickets are available at a discounted rate for our school community: £7 – single ticket £25 – family/group of 4 £35 – family/group of 6 (Please note: the usual on-the-door price is £9, so this is a special discounted rate.) All of this is completely free of charge to the school and ticket sales is the only means the circus has of covering the cost so please do bring as many family and friends as possible! 💜 Reception 💜 This week in Reception, we have planted our own magical beans. We gave our friend simple instructions on how to plant our bean and have enjoyed taking care of them, watching for any changes. We wrote instructions on how to plant a bean and decorated our own castle for our beanstalk to climb to. In Maths we have been exploring halving, using our play dough and cubes and have discussed that each half needs to be equal. We have been busy playing in our garden and had lots of fun getting messy in the colour run! Our parents came to join us for a fantastic music session for Parentshare. 💜 Year 5 💜 What a fantastic end to Summer Term 1 – we couldn’t be prouder! In Literacy, we’ve finalized our drafts of our Explanation texts, showcasing our clear and thoughtful writing. In Maths, we’ve been measuring by calculating the area and perimeter of various shapes. In Reading, we’re approaching the exciting conclusion of The Garden of Lost Secrets. In Science, we got hands-on by creating sundials, discovering how the sun’s movement can help us tell the time. And in History, we dived into the fascinating beliefs of the Vikings. On Wednesday, we enjoyed our school colour run! On Thursday, our students shone on stage at the ALT - Let’s Dance! Festival. We are incredibly proud of every single child – they gave it 110%! 💜 Year 6 💜 We’ve had a great week in Year 6! Our Woodland Day at Benacre Estate was a real highlight - despite the rain, the children thoroughly enjoyed pond-dipping, bug hunting, knot-tying and den building, showing fantastic teamwork and resilience. In Literacy, we began explanation writing with the fun topic “How to Keep Your Teacher Happy,” which inspired lots of creative ideas. In Basketball, pupils applied their skills in games, showing good progress and sportsmanship. In Science, we explored how white light can be split into different colours. 💜 Year 2 💜 This final week of term, Year 2 have been very busy and enthusiastic in their learning. In Literacy, we wrote persuasive letters about why people should visit the seaside, using exciting vocabulary and strong reasons to convince the reader. In Maths, we continued developing our understanding of fractions and practised finding quarters and thirds. During our Great Fire of London learning, we recreated a human water chain to experience how people worked together to put out fires in the past. In Art, we proudly completed our weaving unit using a warp, weft and ribbons to create our finished pieces. 💜Year 3 💜 A fantastic week Year 3! In Literacy, we looked at describing settings from the book Leaf, in Reading we have finished The Iron Man and in Maths we have been practicing our arithmetic. In PE, we played a mini tournament of handball, in PSHE we learnt about prejudice and why this occurs, as well as planning advice for a character experiencing this, in Art we evaluated our block print from last week and in Science we looked at how magnets use non-contact forces to make something move. We also enjoyed another fabulous ukulele session. And a massive thank you to everyone who was involved in the colour run. The children had an amazing time! Have a fabulous half term!
