🌟 Attendance 🌟 Congratulations to Year 1 for not only winning our Class Attendance award but for achieving 100% earning them two rolls on our Attendance-opoly board! Well done to Years 2 & 5 for also achieving over 98% and getting to roll the dice on our Attendance-opoly board too! 💜

🌟Year 6🌟 In Literacy, the children worked on extending their sentence structures and using more advanced punctuation, using The Island as a stimulus. In Maths, we explored circles, investigated nets of 3D shapes and practised plotting coordinates in the first quadrant. Our History lessons took us back to the Vikings as we examined artefacts and images to understand their beliefs. In Fitness, the children developed their coordination through a range of skipping activities, and in Tag Rugby they applied their skills in a series of mini games. In DT, the class made and evaluated their own steady hand games, testing circuits and making improvements. We also visited the Church for our Easter Service, where the children represented the school beautifully. Have a wonderful Easter Break!

🌟 Year 4 🌟 What a fun last week of the Spring term! This week Year 4 went to Fisher Theatre to watch 'How to Train your Dragon', we all loved the movie and made comparisons to how it was different to the book we have been reading. We then went to the Church for our Easter Visit and enjoyed singing and listening to the importance of the Easter story. In DT this week we worked fantastically to design our LED, and showed strong teamwork to help each other light their bulbs in their electrical circuit! Well done Year 4 and have a lovely Easter! Miss Harvey and Mrs Longthorne 🙂

🌟 Year 6 🌟 This week has been a wonderfully busy one in class. In Literacy, the children began their new unit on diary writing inspired by The Island, experimenting with rich figurative language to bring scenes and emotions to life. In Maths, they built confidence working with angles in quadrilaterals and polygons, applying their reasoning skills to new challenges. DT was hands‑on as pupils explored how a steady hand game works, creating complete circuits using conductive materials. In History, the class enjoyed examining why the Vikings are viewed as they are, thinking critically about evidence and perspective. We boosted agility in Fitness, strengthened defensive teamwork in Tag Rugby and in Religion had thoughtful discussions about how Humanists find happiness in a finite life.

🌟 Reception 🌟 This week in Reception, the class have been thinking about what foods to make for our Teddy Bear Picnic next week. They had a go at following instructions to create foods and write their own recipes. In Maths, we have been combining 2D shapes to create new shapes, using shapes to create pictures. In P.E we practised how jump, bending our knees and landing on two feet. The children then applied this skill when taking part in some races. During our Woodland session this week we looked at snails, and had ago at artwork inspired by Henri Matisse's 'Snail'. Next week we are looking forward to our Teddy Bear's picnic on Wednesday, we can't wait to see you there.

🌟 Nursery 🌟 This week Nursery have been reading the book 'Lulu loves flowers'. We have been looking at and describing different types of flowers, talking about what we might find in a garden and how plants grow. We have been painting flowers and exploring famous flower pieces of art. In maths we have been exploring weighing and finding out what is heavier or lighter .Our sound in phonics this week has been /d/. On Friday we joined in with the TTRS with Rock Star dress up day and sang lots of counting songs. We hope you have a wonderful weekend.

🌟 Year 1 🌟 What a fun week it has been for Year 1! In Science, we learned about carnivores and herbivores and their teeth. In History, we explored toys from the 1950s. In Religion & World Views, we learned why Shabbat is important. In Literacy, we published our Planet Non-Chronological reports. 🌟 Reception 🌟 This week in Reception we have been reading 'Oliver's Vegetables' we discussed where our foods come from and how some foods are grown or reared. The children had a go at planting their own carrots and drew the lifecycle of a carrot. Later in the week, we enjoyed a visit from Pakefield Pastures - we loved meeting the animals that can be found on a farm. In Maths we have been looking at patterns, talking about the pattern rule and having a go at creating our own. In the woods today we read "Centipede's 100 Shoes', we had a go at creating our own class centipede finding out what it's like to have lots of legs before hunting for bugs around the woods.

🌟 Year 4 🌟 What a week in Year 4! This week in PE we have been practicing our control technique in Hockey and how to move the ball in different directions whilst maintaining control. In Literacy this week, we have finished writing our alternative ending to the 'Stone Age Boy'! You have all worked so hard on these, well done Year 4! In Maths this week we have explored how to divide 1 and 2 digit numbers by 10, and used our fractions knowledge to explore hundredths! Well done Year 4 for a fantastic week! 🌟 Year 3🌟 A fantastic week Year 3! In Literacy we have written our endings for our stories, in Reading we have been reading 'How To Change The World' and in Maths we have moved onto weight and mass. In Science we looked at the formation of fossils, in DT we designed our crumbles, in Computing we created our own stop motion films, in PSHE we looked at personal and private areas, in History we learnt about the differences between palaeolithic and neolithic settlers and in Religion & World Views we looked at what happens in a mosque. We also enjoyed another fabulous ukulele session and LOVED seeing everyone dress up to TTRS day! A massive thank you to everyone as the children had an incredible day! Enjoy your weekend! 🌟 Year 5 🌟 What a week! In Literacy, we have finalised and published our battle scene between Grendel and Beowulf! In Maths, we have been multiplying unit and non-unit fractions and mixed numbers by a whole. In Reading, we have continued with our text, The Garden of Lost Secrets. In DT, we have experimented with different types of stitching, focusing on the running stitch, back stitch and cross stitch. In Fitness, we have developed our understanding of how agility helps us. In RWV, we discussed stereotypes and the importance of treating others with kindness and respect. In Music, we arranged, evaluated and refined our song performance. A huge thank you to the effort everyone put into their rock star costumes today, you looked absolutely incredible! YOU ALL ROCK!! We have had a fantastic day filled with smiles, laughs, a TTRS battle and times table games. Some wonderful memories made! Have a lovely weekend! 💜

💜 Parents Evenings 💜 Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended our parents evening sessions over the last couple of nights. We have enjoyed sharing your children's progress and attainment as well as the active role they play in life here at Westwood. It was wonderful to see so many happy families leaving and to capture the things you had heard that made you feel proud during your appointments. We will be sharing these with the children in our Celebration Assembly on Friday. If you didn't manage to make it to an appointment, your child's class teacher will be in touch over the next few days. Your children make us proud every single day and we love having you all as part of our Westwood family 💜

✨ What a week in Year 2! ✨ We’ve packed SO many adventures into just a few days, and the children have been absolute superstars! DT Treats – We taste‑tested our very own flapjacks, and the classroom smelt amazing*! The children loved exploring flavours and talking about what makes a great recipe. A Visit from Florence Nightingale – History came to life this week! Florence herself stepped into our classroom to tell us all about life as a nurse in the Crimean War. The children were captivated and asked brilliant questions. World Book Day Magic – What a celebration! The costumes, the excitement, the stories… Year 2 truly brought the joy of reading to life. So proud of this lovely class and everything they’ve achieved this week. 💛 Roll on next week’s adventures!

Year 6! This week in Year 6 was full of activity and great moments across every subject. In Maths, we got stuck into angles around a point, on a line and in triangles, and the class enjoyed spotting patterns and testing out their reasoning. In Literacy, we wrote suspense narratives based on Francis, and it was brilliant to see everyone experimenting with ways to build tension and structure their stories effectively. Science was hands‑on as we investigated how different voltages affect components, with lots of curiosity and careful observations. In PSHE, we discussed the risks of sharing images online and had some thoughtful conversations. Computing gave us the chance to modify 3D digital objects and edit media confidently. PE kept us moving with fitness and Tag Rugby. We rounded things off by celebrating World Book Day on Thursday, with plenty of brilliant costumes and lots of enthusiasm for sharing favourite books.

🌟Nursery🌟 We have had a great week in Nursery. Our book 'From egg to chicken' has taught us about life cycles and in maths we we have looked at pattern. We have been using balance skills on the bikes and fine motor skills to cut. The highlight of our week was 'World Book Day', we really enjoyed dressing up as our favourite book characters and reading lots of stories. Have a great weekend Nursery friends!

Year 5! A fun filled week in Year 5! In Literacy, we have been writing our retelling of the battle between Beowulf and Grendel. We have been truly blown away by the children's creativity and independence with this unit, working hard to include powerful vocabulary and enhanced detail, referring to our success criteria every step of the way. In Maths, we have continued using the short division method, dividing four-digit numbers by one-digit numbers. In Reading, we have continued with our text, The Garden of Lost Secrets, retrieving key information and making inferences surrounding the thoughts and feelings of characters. In Science, we conducted an investigation to explore how to recover salt from a solution. In History, we analysed a range of historical sources surrounding the discoveries made at Sutton Hoo. Yesterday, we celebrated World Book Day! It was amazing to see the children immerse into their favourite book characters! Have a lovely weekend! Please remember PE kits on Monday!

In Science we looked at the properties of rocks, in DT we tasted and evaluated different crumbles, in Computing we create our own stop motion films, in PSHE we looked at the impact of secrets, in History we learnt about Starr Carr and in RWV we looked at Muslim prayer. The children in year 1 had a fantastic time at Jimmy’s Farm last week, especially when they spotted the polar bears. A brilliant day of learning, adventure, and happy faces all round!

This week in Reception we read the story "Daisy Eat Your Peas", we discussed how their our some foods we like and some foods we dislike, the children then used their Phonics knowledge to write sentences about their likes and dislikes. Later in the week the then designed a healthy plate of food. We also got to try different foods from around the world, we were so proud of the children all trying new foods! In Maths we have been looking at the composition of 10 exploring number bonds and beginning to write our own number sentences. In the Woods this week we enjoyed listening to the story 'The Very Busy Spider', we discussed how and why spiders make webs and created our own giant web as a class! The children then enjoyed weaving their own webs. This week we have enjoyed dressing up for World Book Day! We had lots of fun in the school costume parade and enjoyed stories from other teachers from around the school.

💛 Active Leaders 💛 This wonderful group of Year 6 pupils met with Trudi from our caterers (Edwards & Blake) today to share their thoughts around the current school dinner offer. They gave feedback on the meals, asked questions and made suggestions supported by their class teacher Miss Bircham. Their input will help to shape the menu for the summer term! 💜

This week in Reception the children received an invite to a Teddy Bear picnic and were challenged to find find out about healthy foods to make for the picnic. The children discussed healthy and unhealthy foods and explored using fruits to create healthy smoothies after reading 'Handa's Surprise'. In Maths we have been exploring one less than a given number, using number songs like '10 in the Bed'. In Phonics we re capped our sounds taught so far and practised writing CVCC words. In P.E we practised our balancing skills, exploring how to balance with our body and moving around a space balancing a bean bag on our heads. Today we enjoyed a Woodland Learning session where we went on a hunt for worms. We sang the Nursery rhyme 'There's a Worm at the Bottom of the Garden' and discussed where worms live.
