🌟 100% Attendance 🌟 Our 100% attendance prize winners had a fantastic afternoon gathered around the fire pit, toasting marshmallows, making delicious s'mores, and enjoying time chatting and laughing with their friends. This special reward was for children who attended school every single day last year. It was wonderful to celebrate their commitment and dedication to coming to school every day and achieving 100% attendance during 2025-26. A huge well done to everyone who earned this reward. We are so proud of your excellent attendance and hope you enjoyed making these special memories with your friends! 💜

💜 Year 6 💜 What a fantastic end to the half term! Year 6 have worked incredibly hard this week, and we are so proud of all their achievements. In Literacy, we have been developing our understanding of active and passive voice. In Maths, we have been finding factors, common factors and prime numbers. During Arithmetic, we have also been recapping how to convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions. In Science, we have been classifying microorganisms and conducting research to discover the importance of Carl Linnaeus and his work in classification. In Art, we created and evaluated our final pieces, and they are absolutely incredible! We are so proud of the creativity and effort that has gone into these pieces. Please do ask us about our artwork — we would love to share what we have been learning! We would like to say a HUGE well done to everyone for all their hard work, enthusiasm and determination this half term. Every day is a pleasure, and it is a privilege to teach such a wonderful Year 6 class. We hope everyone has a lovely, well-deserved half-term break, filled with plenty of rest, fun and special moments. You have certainly earned it! 💜 Year 5 💜 Well done Year 5, what an amazing week. In Maths, we have been developing our problem-solving skills by finding missing numbers in a range of calculations. In Literacy, we completed our final persuasive letter write. The children worked incredibly hard to use persuasive language and powerful arguments to convince their readers. During PSHE, we practised important first aid skills. We learned what to do if someone is choking, unconscious, bleeding, or has hit their head. The children showed great maturity and enthusiasm while learning these life-saving skills. In PE, we finished our hockey and yoga units. We enjoyed putting our hockey skills into practice through matches and took turns teaching each other different yoga positions, demonstrating confidence, teamwork, and leadership. 💜 Year 4 💜 What another busy week we've had in Year 4! In Literacy, we wrote letters from the perspective of someone living at a harbour. The children enjoyed putting themselves in their character's shoes and thinking about what life might have been like, helping them create detailed and engaging pieces of writing. In Maths, we continued to build our confidence with subtraction, working with two 4-digit numbers and learning how to tackle questions that involved more than one exchange. The children showed great determination when solving some challenging calculations. In Reading, we used our detective skills while reading The 26-Storey Treehouse, looking for clues to help us make predictions and work out what characters might be thinking or feeling - particularly Captain Woodenhead! In Religion and World Views, we reflected on everything we have learned about God's Kingdom and discussed how we can help make our world a kinder, fairer and more caring place by following God's rules. In PE, we put our ball control, passing and teamwork skills into practice during small-sided games. It was wonderful to see the children supporting one another and applying the skills they have been developing in lessons. In PSHE, we learned about the importance of good hygiene and explored ways to keep ourselves clean, healthy and safe. In Music, we used tuned instruments to create repeating musical patterns and rhythms, playing along to a piece of musical poetry. In Science, we became electrical investigators, testing objects and materials from around the classroom to find out which were conductors and which were insulators. The children loved making predictions and discovering the results through practical investigation. Keep playing TTRS where possible over the Autumn break - we absolutely crushed the other year groups in this week's battle! Additionally, children will need to bring old clothes to their swimming lessons on Monday 2nd November and Monday 9th November. (No denim clothing, no onesies, no joggers). 💜 Year 3 💜 What a fantastic week we've had in Year 3! In Maths, we have continued developing our skills in addition and subtraction, using different methods to solve increasingly challenging problems. In Literacy, we completed and published our weather reports. The children worked hard to apply their writing skills and present their reports professionally. In Religion & World Views, we explored a range of Christian parables, summarising their key teachings and answering our big question: "What can we learn from the stories Jesus told?" The children shared some thoughtful reflections about kindness, forgiveness, and helping others. In Science, we continued our plants investigation, analysing our results and drawing conclusions from our experiment. In Computing, we went on an exciting scavenger hunt looking for all the different types of technology we use in school. In PSHE, we learned about the importance of keeping ourselves clean and healthy. Using glitter to represent germs, we discovered just how quickly germs can spread and why good hygiene habits are so important! A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the Halloween Disco such a success. Your support is always greatly appreciated. 💜 Year 2 💜 Year 2 have been working incredibly hard across all areas of the curriculum... In English, we proudly finished publishing our Hansel and Gretel stories and designed eye-catching front covers to complete our books. In Maths, we have begun learning how to add and subtract numbers within 100, building our confidence with larger numbers. In Geography, we concluded our coastal studies unit by identifying similarities and differences between our local coastline and the coastline at Durdle Door in Dorset. In Science, we explored the different parts of plants that we can eat and thoroughly enjoyed tasting a variety of foods, including celery, carrots, snap peas and apples. In Relogion & World Views, we learned about the story of the Good Samaritan and discussed why this was such an important message for Jesus to share. In Art, we evaluated our final pieces and reflected on the skills we had developed throughout the unit. In PE, we have been improving our skipping and ball-dribbling skills, showing excellent determination and perseverance. In PSHE, we learned how germs can spread and how vaccinations can help protect us from certain illnesses. Well done, Year 2, for another fantastic week of learning and achievement! 💜 Year 1 💜 This week in Year 1, we have been so busy in all areas of the curriculum... Literacy – We learnt that adjectives describe nouns and have been practising using adjectives in our writing about The Enormous Turnip to make our sentences more interesting and detailed. Phonics – We revisited the sounds ar, or, ur, air and ear. The children are becoming more confident at blending sounds together and reading words with these graphemes. Maths – We used part-whole models to write addition sentences and then challenged ourselves by writing addition fact families. Art – We evaluated our fantastic final book character creations inspired by the illustrator Axel Scheffler, reflecting on what we did well and what we enjoyed. Computing – We focused on online safety, discussing ways to keep ourselves safe when using computers and other technology. PSHE – We talked about healthy morning routines and why it is important to brush our teeth. We also learnt how germs can spread and designed some wonderful posters to help others stay healthy. Geography – We brought together all our learning about Lowestoft and labelled maps with key features of our local town. Religion & World Views – We learnt that Christians remember Jesus through symbols and celebrations and discussed why Christians believe Jesus is important. Outdoor PE – We continued developing our throwing and catching skills through a range of activities and games. Indoor PE – We worked hard on our skipping skills, showing determination and resilience as we practised. Also this week, Year 1 delivered their very first assembly to the whole school where they performed a song from their Music lessons and then the story of the Enormous Turnip. They were so confident! We are so proud of how well all the children have settled into Year 1 and the progress they have made. We have enjoyed every single day of this term and look forward to more exciting learning next term! Have a lovely half term break! Please keep practising those sounds and reading! 💜 Reception 💜 This week, the children have enjoyed making food, exploring our garden area, and developing their understanding of more and less in maths. We are so proud of how hard they have worked in phonics, practising their blending skills and growing in confidence every day. A highlight of the week was our very first Halloween Disco, where the children had lots of fun dancing, playing with friends, and celebrating together! 🎶🕷️ We are incredibly proud of all the children for their hard work, enthusiasm, and progress this half term. 💜 Nursery 💜 What a wonderful week we have had in Nursery! This week, we have been developing our counting skills to 5 and learning that the last number we say tells us how many there are altogether. In music sessions, the children have enjoyed using the tappy sticks to keep a steady beat and explore rhythm. They have also loved taking part in Big Play in the Hall, where they have been learning to share the equipment, take turns, and play cooperatively with their friends. Our story of the week was We're Going on a Leaf Hunt, which inspired lots of autumn-themed activities. We have been sweeping leaves, enjoying pretend campfires in our play, and sharing lots of stories together. We also had a very special treat - Mr Gook from Year 4 came to read us his favourite story. To finish off a fantastic half term, we ended the week with a spooky disco! The children had a brilliant time dancing, singing, and celebrating all of their hard work. We are so proud of everything the children have achieved this half term and cannot wait to see what they will accomplish next. Our wonderful Year 1 pupils are so good at following our school value 'respectful' that they didn't believe Miss Pearce when she told them they were allowed to write their sentence ideas on the tables today! She had to fetch Ms Gillings & Mrs Barnes to reassure them that it was okay! And then, there was no stopping them! Be sure to ask them about the imaginative sentences they created! 💜

💜 Year 6 💜 Another fantastic week in Year 6! It has been another busy and brilliant week full of learning, teamwork and new discoveries! In Literacy, we have been planning our narratives, working hard to incorporate descriptive and figurative language to bring our settings and characters to life. We have been thinking carefully about the vocabulary we choose and how we can engage our readers through our writing. In Maths, we have been using factor bugs to identify the common factors of numbers. The children have been developing their understanding of factors and using their mathematical reasoning to solve problems. In Science, we identified and discussed different types of microorganisms, exploring how they can be both helpful and harmful to our bodies. We enjoyed discussing the important roles microorganisms play and how they can affect our health. In Geography, we took our learning outdoors and conducted fieldwork in our local area. The children were incredible Westwood role models, walking respectfully and safely while collecting their data. Back in the classroom, we critically analysed our findings and explored how population impacts our local area. We were incredibly proud of the maturity, responsibility and enthusiasm shown by everyone throughout the fieldwork. Please ask us about our findings, as we have lots to share! In PE, we concluded our football topic with a mini tournament, giving the children the opportunity to put their skills into practice while demonstrating teamwork, communication and sportsmanship. Well done, Year 6, for another fantastic week of hard work, curiosity and positive attitudes towards learning. 💜 Year 5 💜 In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of inverse operations, using them to check answers and solve problems with confidence. In English, we have explored appositives and adverbs of possibility, using these grammatical features to make our writing more detailed, effective and persuasive. We have also been making the most of our brand-new trim trail and have absolutely loved our class slot on it! It has been wonderful to see so much teamwork, energy and excitement as the children enjoy this fantastic new addition to our playground. 💜 Year 4 💜 In Literacy, Year 4 published their diary entries and then began learning how to turn their diaries into letters, thinking about how writing changes depending on who it is for and what its purpose is. In Maths, we moved on to addition and focused on exchanging when adding larger numbers. In Geography, we explored Fair Trade and learned how it can help farmers receive fairer pay and better opportunities for themselves and their families. In Art, we designed our own collages inspired by the work of Gustav Klimt. The children carefully considered colours, patterns, and layout as they planned their creative pieces. In Computing, we discussed whether everything we see online can be trusted. The children learned the importance of checking information carefully and thinking critically about what they read and watch on the internet. In PSHE, we explored different ways to keep ourselves healthy and talked about how we can be considerate of the needs of others, helping everyone feel included and supported. In Religion & World Views, we thought about what the world might be like if everyone lived according to God's Kingdom. The children shared thoughtful ideas about kindness, fairness, peace, and the ways we can all help make our school and community better places. In Football, we practised attacking and defending in overload situations, developing teamwork, communication, and decision-making skills on the pitch. Have a great weekend! 💜

💜 Year 3 💜 This week, we have begun focusing on addition and subtraction in Maths and have been exploring weather reports in Literacy. In Science, the children have become investigators, setting up experiments to discover exactly what plants need to grow. Some interesting conditions are being tested, including putting a plant in the freezer! We have also been thinking about what our bodies need in PSHE and continuing to build our ball skills in PE. The children have thoroughly enjoyed trying out the exciting new trim trail equipment too! And finally, a huge well done to some of our Year 3 boys for supporting the Year 4 football team. 💜 Year 2 💜 This week, Year 2 have had a busy and exciting week of learning across the curriculum. In Maths, we began investigating fact families and explored how addition and subtraction facts are linked. In Literacy, we continued developing our narrative writing by creating the build-up and problem sections of our stories, using descriptive language to engage the reader. In Science, we revisited our experiments and discussed what plants need in order to grow and stay healthy. In Geography, we compared the famous coastal landform of Durdle Door with our local Lowestoft coastline, identifying similarities and differences in their physical features. In Religion & World Views, we explored how Christians show that they belong to their faith community through different practices and symbols. Finally, in Art, we completed our collage pieces and reflected on the techniques and skills we had used to create our finished artwork. Well done, Year 2, for all your hard work this week! 💜 Year 1 💜 This week in Year 1, we have been busy learning across lots of different subjects! In English, we used our phonics knowledge to write our own stories based on The Enormous Turnip, thinking carefully about our sounds and sentence writing. We made sure we included a beginning a middle and an end. In Maths, we used part-whole models to help us understand how numbers can be split into parts and combined to make a whole. We used lots of different resources to help us. In Geography, we discussed the different reasons people visit places and explored how places can be used for different purposes. In Music, we enjoyed playing the musical instruments to keep a steady beat to our song Mister Macarella. In PE, we practised our throwing and catching skills, developing our coordination and teamwork. In PSHE, we "passed praise" and complimented each other about things we have improved at. We also learned about resilience and created our own “learning lines” to show how our brains grow and change when we learn something new. We discussed that sometimes we face challenges, but we should keep on trying! In Art, we produced our final characters inspired by Axel Scheffler and have made our own book! 💜 Reception 💜 This week in Reception, the children thoroughly enjoyed creating their very own memory books inspired by the story Full, Full, Full of Love. They loved reflecting on special memories and expressing their ideas through drawing and early writing. The children also had great fun exploring the trim trail, developing their balance, coordination, and confidence outdoors. In Maths, we have been focusing on number correspondence to 5, helping the children match numbers to the correct quantity. To finish the week, we enjoyed a wonderful parent share session where the children proudly shared their work and enjoyed a picnic with their families. 💜 Nursery 💜 The children have worked incredibly hard this week and have shown so much growth in their confidence, independence and friendships. We are so proud of how they have settled in and embraced their learning adventures. In phonics, we enjoyed joining in with familiar nursery rhymes and listening carefully for rhyming words. The children loved singing together and beginning to spot words that sound the same at the end. Our maths learning focused on the number 3. The children practised counting groups of three and finding sets of three objects during their play and activities. During Dough Disco, the children created faces using playdough, carefully adding eyes, noses, mouths and ears. This was a fantastic way to strengthen finger muscles while encouraging creativity. We have also been learning all about our Westwood Values and what they look like in action. Please ask your child about the values and how they have been demonstrating them at Nursery! The children have shown wonderful resilience recently, especially when exploring the new trim trail equipment in the rain. We have loved seeing them challenge themselves and develop their confidence outdoors. It has also been lovely to welcome new friends to Nursery. Everyone has worked hard to make them feel happy, safe and included. Well done, Nursery! 💜
