🌟 Attendance 🌟 Congratulations to Nursery & Year 1 who both had 100% attendance this week and earned two rolls each on our Attendance-opoly board. Well done to Year 5 too who earned a roll of the dice for achieving over 98% attendance this week.

💜 Year 5 💜 Another amazing week in Year 5! In Maths, we have been finding equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages. In Literacy, we have immersed ourselves into a variety of explanation texts. Following this, we have designed a creative product, in preparation to write our own explanation of how this works to pitch to the Westwood Dragon's Den panel. In Reading, we have continued to make insightful inferences on the novel, The Garden of Lost Secrets. In Science, we have created interactive models of the solar system to scientifically understand the movement of the planets. In History, we analysed a variety of sources to understand the significance of the Viking Longship. In Art, we responded to a range of space inspired stimulus, applying the techniques we developed last week to produce a printed outcome. In Woodlands, we immersed ourselves in learning different types of knots and applied this to a range of case studies, identifying which knot would be most appropriate to use and when. In PE, we have continued to work on our serve and technique in badminton. In between all of this... We have found the time to continue to rehearse for our dance performance. Tickets are on sale! 💜 Year 4 💜 Year 4 have had a fantastic week! In Science, we explored classification keys, learning how to sort animals based on their features and make decisions step by step. In Art, we created bold and colourful block paintings inspired by Pablo Picasso, experimenting with shape and expression. In Literacy, we had great fun making our very own woolly mammoths, linked to our class story 'How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth'. Enjoy the bank holiday weekend! 💜 Mrs Finch & Mrs Longthorne

💜 Year 3 💜 Year 3 have had an amazing week of learning! In Maths, the children have been practising how to tell the time, moving confidently from a.m. to p.m. In Literacy, we have been working hard on writing in chronological order and developing clear, detailed instruction writing. 💜 Year 2 💜 This week in Year 2, we have been working very hard across all of our subjects. In Literacy, we have been learning about compound nouns and adding suffixes, and we practised using these new words correctly in our own sentences. In Maths, we focused on finding change, helping us to understand money and how to solve real-life problems. In Science, we explored microhabitats and learnt about the different living things that can be found in small environments. In Art, we developed our creativity through weaving, using different materials and techniques to create our own pieces. 💜 Year 1 💜 What a brilliant week in Year 1! In Literacy, the children proudly published their diary entries about their beach visit, inspired by Last Stop on Market Street — such wonderful imagination on every page. In Science, we explored the animal kingdom by grouping and classifying creatures based on their features. History took us on an adventure as the children “hopped into a time machine” and landed on a Victorian beach. And in Maths, we’ve been learning all about equal groups and sharing. 💜 Reception 💜 This week, we found a beanstalk, giant clothes and a key in our classroom. We have enjoyed sharing the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and have learnt about castles. In Maths, we have compared numbers to 10 and have enjoyed using our new Maths provision area. We have spent lots of time in the garden and have particularly enjoyed some messy mud and water play. 💜 Nursery 💜 This week in Nursery we have been reading the story 'Amazing Airplanes'. We have looked at and named the parts of an airplane and built our own vehicles using loose parts. We have also used the airplane pose in yoga and used breathing techniques to help us to regulate. We have really enjoyed our new outdoor area, especially the water area, where we have used lots of different containers to fill, pour and empty, and the construction area, where we have created lots of different obstacle courses. 🌟 Nursery 🌟 This week in Nursery, we have been reading the story 'Flashing Fire Engines'. We have looked at and named the parts of a fire engine and built our own vehicles using junk modelling materials. We have dressed up as firefighters and created fire pictures. In Maths, we have looked at numbers and shape in play and different amounts. Outdoors we have created large constructions using a variety of materials. See you next week! 🌟 Year 1 🌟 Year 1 have had a wonderful couple of weeks of learning! In Science, we named lots of common animals and then explored animal structures, discovering how different body parts help animals survive. In History, we learned about holidays and found out why it’s called the Victorian era - learning all about Queen Victoria herself. Art was full of creativity as we made our own pieces inspired by Paul Klee, experimenting with colour and shape. We have started to explore Hinduism in R&WV. To support our diary writing in Literacy, we took a lovely trip to the beach, where the children played in the sand and each chose a special rock to take back and paint. 🌟 Reception 🌟 This week in Reception our egg hatched! Mr Hay found some CCTV to share with us that showed a Dragon hatching from our egg. This inspired us to do some fantastic writing and drawings. In Maths we have been exploring weight. We have used our hands and balance scales to make comparisons between the weight of objects and have used the language of heavier and lighter to talk about our ideas. In RSE we shared the book 'There's a House inside my Mummy' and we enjoyed looking at animal mummies and their babies and found it interesting that animal babies have different names to their parents. 🌟 Year 2 🌟 In maths we have been working with money and finding different ways to make the same amounts. We also had a special visitor in to talk about the Great Fire of London — the children were full of brilliant questions. 🌟Year 6 🌟 In Literacy, we began our new biographies unit, researching people of interest and using linking adverbs to improve the flow and cohesion of our writing. In Maths, the children explored ratio, comparing quantities and tackling some challenging problems with confidence. Our Science lessons focused on how humans see and learning that light travels in straight lines, which sparked lots of thoughtful discussion. In History, we started our new topic on the Ancient Maya, exploring who they were, where they lived and what we can learn from this fascinating civilisation. In Art, we learned how wax resists dye in batik while practising safe tool handling. In Basketball, we worked on moving into and creating space to support our teammates. 🌟 Year 3 🌟 A fantastic week Year 3! In Literacy we have started our work on writing instructions on how to wash a woolly mammoth, in Reading we have been reading The Iron Man and in Maths we have been adding and subtracting money. In Science we designed an experiment to test the effects of different surfaces on the speed of a toy car, in Woodlands we learnt to clove hitch and bowline knot, in PE we learnt to defend and intercept in handball, in PSHE we learnt different families and in RWV we learnt about the one God Sikh’s believe in. In History we learnt about the differences between the stone age and the bronze age and in computing we programmed movement. We also enjoyed another fabulous ukulele session. Enjoy the weekend! 🌟 Year 5! 🌟 Another fabulous week! In Literacy, we have been exploring poetry from the text, The Lost Words. We then generated our own ideas to produce a free verse poem surrounding the theme of Generations. Thank you to everyone who attended our poetry Parent Share, the children were so excited to share their hard work with you! In Maths, we have been rounding decimals. In Reading, we have continued with our text, The Garden of Lost Secrets. In History, we were introduced to The Vikings; we used historical sources to make inferences surrounding the raid at Lindisfarne. In Science, we researched the planets within our solar system, making comparisons. In Art, we explored and experimented with a range of printing techniques. In Woodlands, we have been learning how to tie knots securely. A huge well done to Year 5 for their continued hard work on our dance performance. We cannot wait for you see it! 💚 Active Athletes 💚 Well done to this athletic bunch who took part in the Junior Parkrun in Gorleston on Sunday representing Westwood brilliantly with their running ability and their sportsmanship, cheering each other on! 💜 Junior Parkrun is a free event which is held weekly on the lower promenade of Gorleston seafront every Sunday - it would be great to see more of our children there!

🌟 Reception 🌟 This week in Reception, the children have settled back brilliantly after their Easter break. There has been a lot of excitement in the class as we discovered a mysterious egg in our classroom! We have created posters and drawn pictures to share what we think might be inside the egg. In Maths, we have been exploring volume and have enjoyed using varying sized containers and water to see which jugs and cylinders can hold the most and the least water. We have started our gymnastics unit in PE and have looked at eggs and nests as part of our Woodland sessions. Well done for a super first week back, enjoy a restful weekend. 🌟 Nursery 🌟 This week in Nursery, we have started our new topic about transport called 'Getting Around'. We have been looking at different types of boats and reading the story 'The Journey'. The children have looked at capacity - how much a container can hold and floating and sinking. We have also looked at counting in maths and scooping and bouncing in gross motor play. Nursery enjoyed taking part in the non uniform day on Friday for Autism awareness. We look forward to seeing you on Monday! 💜 Miss Clark, Ms Gillings & Mrs Obree

💙 Autism Awareness Day 💙 Yesterday we dressed in blue to mark Autism Awareness Day. The official date for this fell during the Easter holidays but we felt it was such an important topic to raise awareness about that we held our own event yesterday.

🌟 Year 4 🌟 Well done Year 4 for a fantastic first week back! This week in Maths we have been rounding and ordering decimals! In Science we have started our topic of Living things and how these are classified! In Art we looked at Picasso and the features of the Cubist Movement he uses in his art! In Computing we started our photo editing topic, discussing why this may be unethical and then we learnt how to crop and rotate pictures and why people might do this and in PE we have looked out negotiating and compromising in times of conflict. In Maths we have been rounding decimals and focussing on our times tables practice and our TTRS soundchecks! Well done Year 4! Have a great weekend Miss Harvey and Mrs Longthorne
